| Hanover Township Firefighters Complete Water Rescue Training at Lake Nuangola
Members of the Hanover Township Fire Department recently took to the water at Lake Nuangola for a hands-on training session focused on water rescue operations, boat handling, and responder safety.
More than 20 department members participated in the training, with both of the department’s rescue boats placed in the water to provide members with practical experience operating in a real-world environment.
Throughout the training, members reviewed several important components of water rescue operations, including basic rescue methods, personal protective equipment (PPE), water rescue equipment, hand signals and communications, boat operations, and general water rescue safety.
A major portion of the training focused on boat-based victim rescue techniques. Crews practiced safely approaching and making contact with victims from a rescue boat, coordinating personnel aboard the vessel, and bringing victims aboard while maintaining the safety of both rescuers and those being assisted.
Members also worked on operating and maneuvering the department’s rescue boats, reinforcing the importance of effective communication between boat operators and rescue personnel. Standard hand signals were reviewed and practiced to help crews communicate effectively in environments where distance, wind, boat engines, and other conditions can make normal verbal communication difficult.
Training such as this provides our members with an opportunity to become familiar with the department’s equipment before an emergency occurs and reinforces the teamwork necessary for successful water rescue operations.
With waterways and recreational areas located throughout our region, maintaining proficiency in water rescue operations is an important part of the Hanover Township Fire Department’s all-hazards response capabilities.
We would like to thank the more than 20 members who participated and dedicated their time to improving their skills and readiness. |
