By Hanover Township Fire Department
May 30, 2023

HTFD's own Stanley "Corky" Browski served as Parade Marshal for this years Hanover Township Memorial Day Parade sponsored by Hanover Township AmVets Post 59 and Hanover Township American Legion Post 609.

Corky, as he is known throughout Hanover is a life long resident of Hanover Township except for his stint as a career Firefighter in Arlington, VA. Corky is a pillar of the Hanover Township Fire Department, and was instrumental in the consolidation from six fire companies to 1 unified department and in the advancement of our Department for the future.

While working his shift in Arlington, VA on January 26, 1987 Corky, was part of an entry team that initiated rescues and removal of victims trapped in a house fire. After bringing a victim out to safety he was alerted by a neighbor to what was assumed to be a child trapped in a crib on the second floor of the home. As Corky was about to reach into the crib to remove the child the floor gave way. As he was engulfed in flames Corky was able to pull himself back up through the floor and roll down the steps, where fellow firefighter's on the scene threw him into a snow bank to extinguish him.

It was later learned that the child was in fact not in the crib. Corky suffered third degree burns to his face, hands, and knees, and has undergone extensive surgeries to repair the damage he suffered. Despite his wounds and injuries Corky fought against disability to return to work to serve his community but was forced to step away from his career with the Arlington Fire Department.

In 1989 Corky returned to Hanover Township as an Assistant Chief and was named Chief of Department in 2000 up until the year 2006. Corky also served as a Full Time Firefighter in Hanover Township until his retirement in 2021.

We at the HTFD would like to say Congratulations to Corky on his appointment as Parade Marshall and extend a heartfelt thank you for continuing to put your community first even in your retirement.
