About us
The Hanover Township Fire Department is a combination career/volunteer fire department that covers 22 square miles and a population of over 14,000 residents (the most populous Township in Luzerne County) and covers several key traffic routes such as Interstate 81 and State Routes 309 and 29. The Hanover Township Fire Department is the primary fire protection provider for Hanover Township, Warrior Run Borough, and Sugar Notch Borough handling on average of 900+ calls for service per year, making our department one the busiest fire/rescue only departments in Northeast Pennsylvania.
The Hanover Township Fire Department is made up of six chartered hose companies and is overseen by the Hanover Area Fire District, which was established in 2011, with the intentions of consolidating operations of five firehouses down to three, and six hose companies into one overall fire department. The six hose companies that make up the Hanover Area Fire District are as follows:
Goodwill Hose Company # 1
Newtown Fire Company # 2
Preston Hose Company # 3
Franklin Hose Company # 4
