| It is with profound sadness and incredibly heavy hearts that the Hanover Township Fire Department announces the passing of Firefighter Daniel “Dan” Haefele, a longtime member of the Breslau Hose Company and a brother, mentor, and friend to so many within the fire service. Dan was a fireman’s fireman. Those few words may describe him better than anything else we could write. Dan dedicated many years of his life to the fire service and to the Hanover Township community. During his time with the Breslau Hose Company, he served in the ranks of Lieutenant and Captain, worked as a part-time Fire Apparatus Operator, and was a longtime member of the Six County Firemen’s Association. But a list of titles and positions could never adequately describe what Dan meant to the people who served alongside him. Dan was larger than life. He was the kind of firefighter you wanted beside you when things weren't going right. If the hallway was dark and you needed a wingman to have your back, Dan was the guy. You knew he would be there, and you knew he wasn't going anywhere without you. That kind of trust is difficult to explain outside of the fire service. Inside the firehouse, it means everything. Dan remained active with the department until 2022, when he moved to Panama City, Florida, to slow things down, relax, and enjoy life. While miles may have separated him from Hanover Township, the friendships, memories, stories, and brotherhood built over decades never went away. Dan was a friend to many, and anyone who had the opportunity to share a firehouse, an apparatus, an incident, a convention, or simply a conversation with him likely has a story to tell. His personality filled a room, and his presence left an impression. There are losses in the fire service that are difficult to put into words. This one hits hard. Today, we mourn a firefighter, an officer, a friend, and most importantly, one of our brothers. We also remember the countless laughs, stories, calls, lessons, and memories Dan leaves behind. The Hanover Township Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to Dan’s family, friends, and all those throughout the fire service who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest easy, Dan. We’ll take it from here, brother. |
